Asa showed me both the skills and techniques for carving stone, but also how to see what I thought was "in the stone" waiting to be revealed. His teaching techniques gave me confidence as a total beginner. I'm now on my first independent piece and enjoying my newly learned skills enormously. I would recommend Asa wholeheartedly to those who have an interest in carving, or even just picking up new skills away from the world of work!
I find Asa an exceptionally creative, intuitive, inspired and talented sculptor. He expresses in form the intricacies, matrices, designs, interconnectedness and wholeness of living concepts. Concepts of what the material represents, it's unique characteristics and qualities, it's history, ancestry, myth, legend and what it has very personally and creatively become for Asa.

Asa’s work has now matured into compelling sculptures of great depth. The more I look, the more I see and indeed feel.

Asa is very focused and immersed in the process of making his sculpture. He is an accomplished stone carver, working with different materials. His work is full of experimentation, with varied directions towards figurative and abstraction. You want to touch these sculptures when you see them.
Emma, Mother
My boys loved learning & were totally engaged in the process. They produced pendants & small carvings using the methods that Asa taught them. He encouraged them to develop their own ideas & talked to them them about safety, different techniques, ideas & about the stones themselves, It was a truly enriching & confidence building experience. Highly recommended!

Sarah Brinton, Head of Additional Educational Needs (AEN) Faculty & (SENCO), Acland Burghley School
During his time volunteering within a large mainstream secondary school, Asa eagerly worked with some of our most challenging students. He worked flexibly . He was particularly good at working with students with severe social emotional needs. He reflects and responds to each individual’s needs. The students asked for him and looked forward to his sessions. The students found his sessions to be a very useful place to express themselves.
